“Bean”, aka Christine Iversen lives in Los Angeles with her husband
where she draws, designs, digitally paints, watches movies and
dabbles in political activism from time to time. While she works in
various media, it is drawing that was her first love and seems to
always present her with her favorite challenge.
As a
child she was constantly drawing on the back and sides of her
classroom assignments, much to her teacher’s dismay. However, her
rebellious behavior seemed to pay off when she won her first art
contest in the first grade proving that indeed, crime does pay!
This
desire to draw and to “art” lead her to the Art Institute of
California-San Diego where she earned her Bachelors Degree in
Multimedia and Animation. Being a 21st century kind of artist, she
prefers to color and design on her Mac computer but she still draws
the old-fashioned way, just like when she was a kid. Only difference
now is that she no longer doodles on the backs of her assignments,
apparently clients don’t pay for that!

Coffee, Tea and Me,
8 x 6”, Digital Illustration
This was a
piece done both as a test for a children’s book opportunity and as a
personal challenge. The author was looking for a certain art style
and sent me an image like this to recreate. I took the task and made
it my own by drawing it then inking and coloring it entirely in
Adobe Illustrator. While the result did not get me the job (Booo!),
it did get me a nice piece I like to show off.
Meet your
friendly neighborhood barber, like they had in the olden times when
they used chainsaws instead of clippers. Actually, I guess that's
not how they used to do it but well, this guy has his own way of
doing things.
This was a character I designed for a test for the Nickelodeon animated series, "Fairly Oddparents". Don't blame me for the chainsaw, that was in their script, I'm just the artist!
Pete,
8 x 8”, Digital
Illustration
Pete
is a pet lover, he draws his name from the non-profit organization,
PETA. I wanted to create a character who embodied humane treatment
of animals and who championed their cause for the graphic novel my
husband and I are working on. I’d tell you about it but it’s on the
down low until we have
the story better put together, stay tuned for more penguin work to
come.
Rosie,
3 x 4/5”, Digital Illustration
Rosie
the Riveter has always been a personal heroine of mine. True, the
actual character is not real, but many women who went to work and
struggled to do so were real. I come from a long line of women who
struggle to work so, I can relate quite well to her. In her honor, I
created a character for the graphic novel that my husband and I are
working on, which again, I can’t tell you about just now. But I am
looking forward to telling you about it in the future, so hang
tight.
Earmuffs
for lunch, again. (Digital illustration)
This piece was created for an art contest posted for the Society of Children's book writers and illustrators. The contest was to illustrate the line, "Sometimes I wear these to lunch". I thought of all the silly things a kid could wear to lunch, scuba gear was top of the list, but then I thought that earmuffs could make a better story. So I went with that, not sure if I'll win but here's crossing my fingers, toes and eyes!
