Rob Jacobs was born in Brooklyn, New York, and grew up in Los Angeles, with his father, mother, and his brother, from the age of five.

Much of his life has been centered in the areas of music, art, health, meditation, his family and friends, and the study of Eastern thought and philosophy.

His work, in the field of commercial art, was, in his own commercial art business, as a photo retoucher to the advertising and entertainment industries.  Rob’s dream, however, was to produce his own images, and this was implemented in 1990.

Since then he has produced six series of art, including:  The Warriors, The West, The Western Haiku, The Starbucks Haikus and Angels of Protection (http://www.angelsofprotection.com).  This series exists as enhanced archival printing on canvas, framed enhanced art, prints and cards.   His latest series, The Lakota Spirits, are his graphic representations, of these spirits, inspired from the book, Meditations With Native Americans – Lakota Spirituality by Paul Steinmetz, and the mountain carving of Crazy Horse in the Black Hills of South Dakota.  The Lakota Spirits has had two museum shows.

Rob has participated in many shows in the Southern California area, including, the LA County Museum of Art (Rental Gallery).  In 2005 he was the featured artist during the Angel Fest, held at the Learning Light Foundation in Anaheim, California.  His work has been utilized in television including the shows “Boston Public,” “Family Law,” “Arrested Development, ”Huff,” and others.  His art was the work of the character played by Toni Colette in the HBO movie, “Dinner with Friends.”

As a former music major, Rob is also working on a music project.  Those working on the project are very enthusiastic about it.  Much of it sounds very tribal.

BOOK – Dialogues on Reality

This cover painting, for the book Dialogues on Reality by Robert Powell, utilized my pre-created palettes, as does all my art in one way or another.  The palettes became the background, so the next issue I had to resolve was how was I going to show dialogue in a kind of metaphysical way.  What I did was to find images of two people talking, keep the texture of the universe, and render them in cool colors of stone.

cetanCetan, The Spirit of the Hawk

(from my Lakota Spirits Series)

My Lakota Spirits Series was inspired by the book, Meditations with Native Americans / Lakota Spirituality by Paul Steinmetz and the Crazy Horse Mountain Carving in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

I made this piece in a small size collaged from my palettes.  I then transferred it to canvas utilizing the same technique as the Renaissance masters, and painted the piece in acrylic paints and gels.

Quote from book:  Cetan, the hawk “presided over swiftness and endurance.”

unktomniUnktomni, the Spider

(from my Lakota Spirits Series)

I made a small image of this piece, and used it mostly for inspiration for the final art.  As I began working on the larger finished piece on wood, I retained much of the feeling of the “original sketch,” but altered and changed the image as I went along, adding the three dimensional totem pole, feather and the spiders.

Quote from the book: Unktomni, the Spider, was the “presiding genius of pranks and practical jokes with powers to work magic over persons and things.”

tapsTaps is Played for the World

As of 2010 it has been reported that there over one hundred wars going on in our world.  And let us remember this truth: religions do not start wars – people do.  Taps is Played for the World is my statement against all wars everywhere.  More importantly, it is my statement for peace in the universe.

The original mixed media piece consists of collage, acrylic paint brushed and airbrushed, pencils and photographic dyes on mounted photographic paper.  It is 48 inches square.

This piece, finished in 2010 has not, as yet, been uploaded to Rob’s website.  However, it is available in Iris archival prints of almost any square size format.  For information, please contact Rob at:  robajacobs@earthlink.net

As a finished piece of art, it presently exists in a 23” x 23” wood frame – acrylic paint and photographic dyes on print with gels.

The above picture is one of many that Rob has done for the new book Angels of Protection: True Angel Stories in the Modern Age by Angela Taylor & Rob Jacobs
