WHO’S YOUR HOMO HERO -
BRENT OR NICOLE?
Houston, TX – GAPH 2: The Readers, the much anticipated sequel to God’s Army to Purge Homosexuality is now available. What was written six years ago has become a sensational and time appropriate book for this political year.
Attached is an interview that we recently had with B. Alan Bourgeois. In his own words you learn why he wrote this fast pace thriller of homegrown terrorist who are out to destroy the way of life for America’s Homosexual community and their friends.
Brent & Nicole had thought they won the war only now to find out that their lives and the lives of their peers, loved ones and family are once again in danger. In the climatic ending, what should have been a very special day ends in an ever explosive event. Who survives is one of the biggest cliff hangers around.

Interview with
B. Alan Bourgeois:
Houston writer, B. Alan Bourgeois has had limited success over the years, but with the release of his third book, it is clear that this writer has something to say that reflects the thoughts and feelings of Gays, Lesbians and many others in our community today. He does this through a variety of characters and story lines that reach out to many people crossing the lines from the limited gay genre, to a more general mainstream genre.
Recently I had the privilege to sit down with this native Houstonian at his home to discuss his third novel GAPH 2: The Readers that was just released.
Curtis: I understand this book; GAPH 2 is a sequel to God’s Army to Purge Homosexuality, is that correct?
Alan: Yes, it is.
Curtis: I’ve heard that you don’t like writing sequels, why is that?
Alan: It’s not that I don’t like writing sequels; it’s more that I write on such a variety of subjects, that I don’t want my fans to expect or rely on the same characters or story line. I like to take my readers on a journey and to teach them something on the way.
Curtis: This particular story has the same theme as the original GAPH; that of American terrorist attacking Gay’s and Lesbian’s. What motivated you to write about that subject?
Alan: In the mid 90’s, I was very active in the LeTs Bi Gay community in Houston. Hell, over the years I’ve always been active in gay politics. But in 1997 while I was watching CNN, a short and all too brief report came on about a gay bar in Atlanta being blown up by the Olympic bomber. The reason for the bombing was the initial story idea for the first book. Then after a couple of years of Bush II being in office, I saw a rise in hate crimes, along with a dare from a friend encouraging me to write the sequel. That was in 2003.
Curtis: After I read it, I was surprised to see how prevalent this book is now with the political anti-gay marriage clement we are in.
Alan: Yeah, it surprised me too. I had planned for GAPH 2 to be released a few years earlier, but the Universe had other plans.
Curtis: Timing is everything.
Alan: (laughing) It certainly is.
Curtis: In this book you have two of the main characters getting married.
Alan: Yes, Brent and Curtis. A love affair that started in the first book: God's Army.
Curtis: This book deals with modern day terrorism; ID Theft, Computer hacking, Outing of Transgender's, Child Abuse, all directed towards the LeTs Bi Gay community. Why?
Alan: Because that is life. It happens across this country in small numbers and sadly it’s because of the hatred towards us.
People will do anything to prove their theory that we are sick and warped individuals. Sadly, they have to create the illusion and then blow it out of proportion.
Curtis: All of your books have a spiritual underlining to them, correct?
Alan: Yes, GAPH 2 and the original GAPH have less then my last one; Spirit Never Dies. My fourth one; Extinguishing the Flame: the Story of JC is a modern day story of a Jesus type character.
Curtis: Then I take it; you have a strong spiritual background?
Alan: God no, far from it. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been on a spiritual path for 20 plus years now, I’m even a non-practicing minister. So yes, I now have a strong spiritual tie, just not while growing up.
Curtis: Some people say that you are harsh in your writing. Why do you think that’s the case?
Alan: Some people think a lot of things about me (laughing) and not always good. As for my writing as in my life, I call it the way I see it. I don’t believe in being P.C. (Taking a deep breath, Alan continued)
There is no way in hell to please everyone, or even a majority of people. So why try. People will think what they want no matter how much you kiss their ass. It’s not worth the effort. Be yourself 24/7 and they will respect you for it, even if they don’t like you.
Curtis:
Recently Apple, Inc. refused to list
GAPH 2 and
Spirit Never Dies
in their iPhone and iPod store, citing that it contained
inappropriate material.
What was your response when you heard that?
Alan:
I was shocked that of all companies Apple would refuse
books that had gay characters in it.
What really shocked me was that
Spirit Never Dies,
which is a spiritual thriller full of positive affirmations, was
denied. It was clear
that whoever reviewed the books did not really read them.
My publisher has resubmitted them to Apple through the appeal
request, but as of yet, they have not responded to our appeal.
I could understand it if there was graphic sex in it, but
neither of them had any sex scenes.
Curtis: In the original and in this sequel, there is a character named “Alan”, a young boy in fact. Is he modeled after you?
Alan: (With a smile on his face) Yes and no. I’m in every character I create, even the evil ones. But, in this case, the boy Alan is a reflection of the inner child in me. When I was growing up, I really didn’t get to enjoy a normal childhood as this character does.
Curtis: In the climatic ending, you kill off some main characters, why is that?
Alan: It goes back to not wanting to write sequels. At the same time, it’s just good old fashion suspense. Since I have chosen to write a trilogy for this story, I felt it was important to leave a small, but vital cliff hanger at the end of GAPH 2.
Curtis:
When can we expect GAPH 3 to come out?
Alan: That depends on my fans. There is no official release date right now, so if the fans demand it, it may be out next year. If not, well we will see.
Curtis: What other stories can we expect from you?
Alan: Tango Four is about a Hispanic prison gang and a gay man. It has been picked up for publication as well as Sammy the Peacock, a children’s story. Of course my sexual fantasies will always be available and with my life, you never know what I will pen. I’m not tied down to one concept or genre as you’ve seen with Spirit Never Dies.
Curtis: One last question for you.
Alan: Sure.
Curtis: The reviews from the gay press have never been outstanding or exceptional for you, and yet each one of them admits that they just couldn’t put your books down. Why do you think that is?
Alan: I will be the first to admit that I’m not a great writer. I don’t follow the traditional formats when I write a book. I simply write what I see, feel and wish to share. Luckily, they are good enough to keep people wanting more, even the critics.
Curtis: I think that says it all. Thank you for your time.
Alan: My pleasure.
GAPH 2: The Readers is available at most book stores and on line through the publisher at CreativeHousePress.com and Amazon.com.
